Between 30th of June and 7th July 2013, young students, professionals and social activists with diverse backgrounds came together from 24 countries from the EU and beyond, gathered in Sønderborg, DK, for the summer academy Waves of Democracy. Sønderborg lies on the island of Als in the heart of the Sønderjylland/Schleswig-Holstein border region. After centuries of conflict, the region has successfully overcome historical adversity through dialogue, mutual understanding, and democratic participation.
The most recent instalment of the series of Waves of Democracy projects took place in July 2015. The Summer Academy addressed current challenges in culture and politics by using a variety of advanced tools and methods, and set up new models for discussing and narrating Europe. The seminar week included workshops, study visits, excursions, creativity and performance. More information is available on the official website.
