Youth on the Move/Sønderborg 2018
The Model European Parliament in Sønderborg was a great success – Opening Ceremony in the castle, professional committee work, sightseeing in beautiful weather, performance in the new culture house/library, parliament in Alsion and much more – students and teachers had a very good time, staying with host families and in the hostel. Another benefit was the cooperation with the new partner school, Alssundgymnasiet, who hosted the session in the best possible way. Young people from 11 countries and 30 schools attended – along with a network of teachers. Look out for pics and more info at MEP BSR.
Upcoming sessions: alumni/vision seminar in Copenhagen in April 2019 – a working seminar, where the development of the mepbsr organisation will be discussed. – The next ordinary session will take place in Vienna, Austria (a guest member of the organisation) October 2019.
Cooperation with Global Seniors Denmark
Global Seniors (GS) is a network of senior professionals with a strong international commitment. Their mission is to bring a pool of international experience into action in public discussion, in education and to carry these experiences on to the next generation. IUC has established a link to this organisation – these days we mostly focus on education and training of young people, but from the very start we always included all age groups in our projects. IUC´s Nina Nørgaard is the coordinator of a study trip GS will make to Krakow, Poland in May 2019. The purpose will be to meet Polish people from many circles of life, not least education, exchange experiences and set up projects. We have always worked closely with Poland, and in the past we even had an office in Warsaw.
Mid-term elections in the US
What does IUC have to do with the US beyond a natural interest? – One of our consultants of many years – Tyler Adkins, has returned to his native state of Maine. He is running as an independent candidate and hopes to be elected to the state senate. He was a major project manager in the Waves of Democracy projects in 2013 and 2015. We wish him luck in a tough political climate, and will follow him closely on Nov 6th. Read about Tyler´s campaign.
European Parliament elections May 2019
The elections for the European Parliament will take place in May and, at IUC, we are presently discussing how to activate interest for these elections, in particular among young people. Our youth parliaments prepare for this, and the participants are highly motivated, but they only make up a small percentage of young people. We plan to approach other organisations in Denmark, working nationally and internationally, interested in the elections and discuss how to raise interest in important political issues (how they matter to young people, who are usually not very interested in party politics). There are many small organisations working along the same lines – it would be great to form a network and join forces.
