Youth on the Move
The Model European Parliament in Sønderborg was the great success of 2018 – Opening Ceremony in the castle, professional committee work, sightseeing in beautiful weather, performance in the new culture house/library, parliament in Alsion and much more – students and teachers had a very good time, staying with host families and in the hostel. Another benefit was the cooperation with the new partner school, Alssundgymnasiet, who hosted the session in the best possible way. Young people from 11 countries and 30 schools attended – along with a network of teachers. Also, in the pipeline were the preparations of the vision seminar in Copenhagen, developing MEP BSR. (See below)
Cooperation with Global Seniors
Global Seniors (GS) is a network of senior professionals with a strong international commitment. Their mission is to bring a pool of international experience into action in public discussion, in education and to carry these experiences on to the next generation. IUC has established a link to this organisation – these days we mostly focus on education and training of young people, but from the very start we always included all age groups in our projects. IUC´s Nina Nørgaard is the coordinator of a study trip GS will make to Krakow, Poland in May 2019. The purpose will be to meet Polish people from many circles of life, not least education, exchange experiences and set up projects. We have always worked closely with Poland, and in the past, we even had an office in Warsaw. Program will be posted very soon.
Steering committee EUNET
The European network European Network of Education and Training is under reconstruction, and in March IUC´s Nina Nørgaard met with representatives from the NL and D. to discuss how to develop this very important network – keep active contacts on board and prepare a working weekend later this year.
Vision Seminar/Copenhagen
In April students and teachers from our Nordic Baltic network in 10 countries will meet to discuss the development of the organisation MEP BSR (mepbsr.org) The purpose will be to produce a handbook of good practices, establish student and teacher networks, create a manifesto and produce a video etc. Academic inputs will be provided as inspiration for the work in labs. The seminar is a follow up to Youth on the Move and will also include preparations for the next MEP BSR seminar in Austria in October.
European Parliament elections May 2019
2019 is European Parliament election year, and along with many organisations in DK, (and abroad of course) IUC will take part in developing tools/methods to raise interest and persuade especially young people to vote at this very important election. Young people are generally interested in politics, not party politics, but general issues, especially climate/energy and immigration policies – and their knowledge of the EU/Europe is quite high in DK. Here is a list of important Danish organisations working with European issues, some of whom we have worked with, others to follow hopefully. Only by combining forces, developing strategies and visions together can we hope to put the EU/European matters firmly on the agenda.
